Situated in the north of Greece, Halkidiki is located 44 miles southeast of Thessaloniki.

Halkidiki has beautiful sandy beaches, 46 of which have been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness.

Halkidiki is made up of three peninsulars jutting out into the Aegean Sea.

The western peninsular, Kassandra, is the busiest and most popular, with hotels ranging from luxury to basic for cheap holidays. The most popular beaches here are Hanioti, Sani, Kalithea and Pefkohori, all of which offer good watersports facilities. A short distance north of the Kassandra peninsular is Petralona Cave which has 1.25 miles of tunnels complete with stalagmites and stalagtites.

The central peninsular, Sithonia, is the most beautiful of the three peninsulars, with unspoilt fishing villages, a rugged, pine forest interior. Catering for the more upmarket visitors, Sithonia has a sailing marina at Porto Carras, an 18-hole golf course, a casino and a Thalassotherapy and Spa centre.

The eastern peninsular, Mount Athos (The Holy Mountain), is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to 20 monasteries. Only men are allowed to visit Mount Athos and they must have a permit to do so. Both men and women can take a boat trip from Ouranoupolos around the perimeter of Mount Athos.

Waterland is a huge water park in Thessaloniki. Here you will find a large wave pool, water slides, a crazy river, restaurants and bars, great for a family day out. Thessaloniki also has an array of Roman, Byzantine and Turkish era monuments and the Archaeological Museum. Thessaloniki also has Byzantine churches which are UNESCO World Heritage Site listed.

 
CLIMATE

During July and August the average daytime temperature is 28C with milder weather May, June, September and October, however the sea is still warm during these months.
