Lesbos (Lesvos) is one of the quieter Greek islands, offering an authentic Greek experience in a relaxed atmosphere. Holidays on this large island are popular with families, especially in the small resorts like Petra and Anaxos. The island is the third largest Greek island and has many unspoilt traditional villages and lots of green farmland just waiting to be explored. The island is a walkers paradise with many historic trails
and paths which will take you for a gentle stroll or for the more energetic, a mountain trek. May and October are a perfect time for walking around the island as the weather is ideal and the fields are in full bloom. Bird watchers, nature lovers and eco-tourists are attracted to Skala Kalloni which is carpeted in wild flowers in the spring.
Dining is more varied on Lesbos than on most of the other Greek islands with lots of authentic cuisine and vegetarian food.
All of the island’s resorts offer plenty of beach bars and tavernas but avoid the over crowding of many of the livelier islands.
Due to the islands wonderful sunny climate and shallow clear waters, swimming and sunbathing are very popular with holidaymakers. The beach resort of Skala Kallonis is a firm holiday favourite while beautiful Molyvos is perfect for those seeking a mixture of tradition and culture with some great nightlife. Skala Eressou has a wide sandy beach and is popular with families,
honeymooners and gay couples. The resort has many businesses that are run by gay couples and also offers excursions which are for women only. The island’s main resorts offer a variety of water sports including scuba diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing, water skiing, canoeing and pedalos. For organised beach activities Thermi, Vatera and Sirgi are very popular.
Away from the beaches there is plenty to keep the whole family occupied, like wandering around the markets, craft shops and artists studios. The island attracts many artists and writers with a number of resorts offering an alternative spiritual scene. Visitors to the island can experience a whole range of different experiences including astrology, meditation, thermal spas, tai chi and shiatsu. Walking, hiking, horse riding and cycling are on offer on the island along with boat trips to secluded beaches which should not be missed on your late deals to Lesbos. The island has a network of trails and paths which take cyclists through a variety of landscapes. The eastern part of Lesbos is the best part for terrain cycling,
with traditional villages, deserted coves and beaches, thermal springs and wonderful orchards and olive groves. There are lots of opportunities for day trips including visits to the medieval town of Molyvos, traditional villages such as Agiossos, the sandy beaches of Skala Eressos and Vetera and Mytilini which has an historic castle, historic settlements and museums.
Package holidays to Lesbos offer exceptionally good value for money and are ideal for families who want to get away for a quiet, relaxing break.
