Strikes across Greece are affecting travel to, from and around the country and islands today as people protest against suggested austerity measures being voted on to help the economic state of the country.

Flights to and from Greece will be cancelled between 8am-12pm today and tomorrow and again between 6pm – 10pm.  Ferry and Rail services are also suspended. Violent clashes have already been reported between protestors and police.

easyJet have announced that they will be flying to Zante (Zakynthos) from London Gatwick. The deal was finalised after the island of Zante raised 150,00 euros towards the cost of promoting the new route.easyjet

Flights will start from 21st May 2010 and will continue until the end of September.

All flights from London Gatwick will be early morning departures on Monday’s, Thursday’s, Friday’s and Saturday’s, enabling travellers a full day in Zante on their arrival!

easyJet have announced that they will be adding two further routes to their network from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) for next Summer, with twice weekly services to the Greek island of Rhodes and Bodrum. JLA

These latest additions to their JLA operations follows the recent news that the airline will be basing their tenth aircraft at the airport which is already set to operate new services to Malta next Summer too.

easyJet now offers a choice of 25 European destinations from JLA, with both Rhodes and Bodrum being the first scheduled destinations from JLA to Greece and Turkey.

Both routes are expected to be popular with the region’s holidaymakers. Rhodes is the largest and the Capital of the Dodecanese Islands, famed for its historic sights and rich and varied landscape.

Flights to Rhodes commence on 12 June 2010, with fares from £26.99 one way (£58.98 return).
